Twas the night before school
Camryn started 5th grade today, and Cailyn started 2nd. They picked out their clothes yesterday, and last night we went to our traditional "Night before school starts hibachi dinner." When we got home they packed their lunches, and headed to bed. Due to dinner taking longer than expected, they didn't get to bed until about 9:15. Cailyn told me she was a little nervous about the first day. We let them read or watch videos on their Kindles for awhile, then told them it was time to go to sleep. Around 10:00, and every 15 minutes or so after that, they would tell us they couldn't go to sleep. Around 11:00 they said it was like the night before their birthday - they were too excited to sleep. At 11:45 Cailyn came into our room, and said she couldn't sleep. I let her crawl into bed with me, hoping she would finally get to sleep. About 3 minutes later she said, "I'm going to try my own bed." At 12:11, I heard Cailyn whimper to Camryn, "It is morning...we have to sleep!" I grabbed my pillows and a blanket and went in to sleep with them in their room. When I walked in, I found they had taken the pillows and blankets off their beds, and made a bed on the floor where they could lay together. They were cuddled up together, watching a video on Cam's Kindle, trying to relax enough to sleep. It really was pretty adorable. They fight more often than they get along, so this was a pretty sweet moment for them. I crawled onto Cailyn's bed, had them shut the Kindle off, and we all went to sleep. This morning went great. I'm hoping bedtime gets a little easier in the coming nights.

The 80's
Cailyn was telling be about how they did laundry all the way back in 1980, with a part of a log, scrubbing and hanging involved.
Me: When was that?
C: In the 1980's, like when Grandma Mary was born.
Me: I was born in 1980.
C: Really!? Did you have to wear sunglasses?
Me: No, why?
C: Because the 80's were buh-riight!!!

Tuth17
Cailyn lost her tooth at Auntie's house. She put it in an envelope, and wrote this on the outside:
Any guesses why she wrote Tuth17?
It has her tooth, she is in 1st grade, and 7 years old, of course.
After she lost it, she told me "Mom, the tooth I lost was Rick. I'll always miss you, Rick! You have other family members, but you were always my favorite."

Reunion Picture
She pulled me aside at the Larsen Reunion and asked me to take this picture of her. It is one my favorite pictures of her ever.

I'll love you until...
As Carrie was leaving Shannon's house, Cailyn said "Auntie, don't forget I love you! I will love you til I'm 90. Or until I'm as old as you!"

Farm to go
Shannon and Cailyn walked outside today and could smell cow manure. Cailyn said "Whoa! Did you order a farm online?"

Scoot
Posted by Carrie: "Yesterday at Billy's, Cailyn wanted to sit next to Lindy in the booth. She told her to "scoot your patoot."
Leave a message
Posted by my Mom: "I'm home today with an achy body, and Bob came home awhile ago because it was too windy to cut trees. I was talking to Shannon and the 4 year old on the webcame and I said, "Well, I have to go now and kiss Grandpa." Cailyn put her hands over her ears and said, "Cailyn isn't here, leave a message, beeeep."

Beyond our expectations
Camryn - "Mom were we adopted?"
Me - "No, why?"
Camryn - "Well then Cailyn must have been adopted."
Me - "No, why?"
Camryn - "Because I never would have expected to have a sister this bossy!"

Who knew going to the bathroom could be so exciting?!?!
In the last few days, I have discovered that if Cailyn is naked from the waist down, she lets us know when she has to go potty. She has gone potty on the toilet 6 times this weekend, and pooped on the toilet for the first time about an hour ago! She is pretty excited, and I'm pretty stoked at the thought of not having to buy diapers anymore!
The downside is, if she has underwear on, she feels like she has a diaper on, and just goes. This may make going out in public a challenge! :) I don't think people at Target would be very happy with my daughter's naked bottom hanging out for the world to see.

Sisterly Love
Last night, Cailyn all of a sudden started grabbing at her diaper, and twisting it all around, and saying "my bottom itches" over and over again. She started rolling around on the ground, wrestling with her diaper, and got a panicked look in her eyes, and said, urgently, "change mine diaper, please!!!" I took off her diaper, and there was a bunch of specs of stuff in there. I couldn't figure out what it was. It looked like red, black, orange and white sand. I asked her what she had been playing with, but she said she didn't know what it was.
Awhile later, Camryn walked up to me with a guilty look and said "did you ever change Cailyn's diaper?" I said "yes" and she started laughing and said "was there anything in it?" and I said "some specks of something. Do you know what it was?" She kept laughing and said "I was wondering when you were going to find the spices I put in there!"
The little stinker! The girls helped me season the steaks for dinner, and Camryn put some Steak rub in Cailyn's diaper. Poor Cailyn! Her little bottom had been exfoliated by spices.
